![]() After 65 years, the Joseph family decided to close El Patio in August 2019 so that they could retire. This is similar to what happened with another Austin Tex-Mex restaurant. Robert Martinez and Roe Hernandez opened the restaurant in 1994 somewhere else in Central Austin, and relocated the business to West Anderson Lane in the late 1990s. In July Eva and Carmen Hernandez told Eater that they were in the middle of working on securing permits, with a tentative plan to open the restaurant at the end of that month. “This was our decision,” they wrote in the Facebook announcement. The Martinezes decided to close the restaurant ahead of the end of its lease in June because they wanted to retire. As an opening day special, Enchiladas y Mas is offering $10 16-ounce to-go margaritas with the purchase of an entree. The Tex-Mex menu remains the same, full of enchiladas, fajitas, tacos, nachos, all-day breakfast, and drinks. (The restaurant is also selling its own branded face masks too.) Face masks are required for everyone who isn’t seated at a table. In order to adhere to COVID-19 safety regulations, the dining room will only feature 12 tables, and it is limiting seatings to 90 minutes or less.
